Prevention. Psoriasis causes

Prevention. Psoriasis is a chronic, autoimmune in nature, multifactorial disease. It can therefore not "prevent" psoriasis but given its chronic relapsing course, you can limit or restrict the factors that can trigger a resurgence of the disease and it is possible to implement what is called "tertiary prevention."

PREVENTION

Risk Factors

The causes of psoriasis are not yet clearly known and include a number of factors (genetic, immunological and environmental) that play a role in its development, as well as the "triggering events" of various kinds.

Triggering Factors

The exact cause of psoriasis is unknown, but it is determined that it is not a skin infection; but an inflammatory disease, with immunogenetic basis and where multiple triggers are involved.

Stress plays a fundamental role, some drugs, infections, alcohol and tobacco consumption, control of associated systemic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure and dyslipidemias

Weather and Seasons

Psoriasis improves in warm and tropical climates and worsens in the winter where it increases skin dryness. It is recommended to keep the skin hydrated and lubricated for reducing skin desquamation.

The improvement with sea and sun baths before 11 am or after 3 pm is also recommended.

Nail Care

Psoriasis can cause damage to the nails and toenails, so in order to minimize those bad effects it is advisable to always keep them short, clean and soft. Gloss nail polish or soft nail polish may be used. The use of fake nails of any material is contraindicated, since they may lead to secondary infection and nail deterioration.

Skin Care

To improve your skin, follow a few tips, such as:

Keep your skin clean and hydrated, using mild soaps or body wash and moisturizing creams.

Use cool and clean clothes eliminating the remains of treatments

Nutrition

It should be noted that there is no cure for psoriasis, but pharmacological, physical and topical treatments enable you to keep milder forms of the disease well under control. Maintaining a healthy and suitable diet is important for keeping the disease under control, avoiding foods rich in fats and alcohol.
