Psotherapy® treatment is also an excellent ally in the summer because since it isn’t a photosensitizer, it can also be used during exposure to the sun. People with psoriasis are very happy when summer arrives.  The combination of sun and sea is indeed often a winning combination for psoriasis sufferers because the action of sea water and sunlight contributes significantly to reversing the lesions.  The keratolytic action of sea water, levels out the lesions and combined with sunlight, it acts as an excellent anti-inflammatory measure. soothing the itching of the lesions, removing dead skin cells and promoting skin regeneration.

In order to optimize the benefits of the sea and reduce the few negatives disadvantages, we provide you with some useful tips:

The sun improves psoriasis especially if associated with sea water; but avoid sunburn. Choose early morning and late afternoons to get the sun and make sure you apply  sunscreen having a high protection factor.  Waterproof sunscreen is a good idea.

Alternate frequent and short exposures to sun: this has a positive effect on reducing and otherwise improving your symptoms.

To avoid sunburn, your exposure to UV rays should be gradual. It is a good idea to use after-sun products which can restore proper hydration to the skin and at the same time provide the skin with restorative and anti-inflammatory substances.

The use of emollients and ad hoc soaps is recommended in order to cleanse the skin in depth and facilitate scale removal. When the weather is hot, we wash ourselves more frequently but this can dry out the skin and worsen psoriasis. Therefore, it is better to use non-aggressive products such as neutral or oil-based soaps and natural oil-based body wash.   Do not forget to hydrate daily with specific creams.

Psoriasis therapy must be modified in the summer following your dermatologist’s advice because many of the drugs being used may create photosensitivity (the skin would be more likely to get sunburned).

It is a good idea to take dietary supplements (vitamins A and E), as recommended by specialists, at least one month before exposure to the sun because it prepares the skin to UV rays. Besides protecting the skin from too much radiation it has other benefits (limiting skin damage such as aging).

In the summer it is important to drink more liquids: preferably vitamin-rich juices:  these are more beneficial than alcoholic beverages which would only make your psoriasis worse.

To avoid allergies limit the use of depilatory creams. Instead gently shave and only if you have no plaques, use the cold-hot wax procedure, tweezers and epilators. After waxing, the skin must be well hydrated.

Excessive sweating can make your symptoms worse: choose comfortable clothing made of natural fibers and wear open shoes to allow your skin to breathe and stay dry.

Practicing sports improves psoriasis and strengthens the immune system, but swimming pool water can dry out the skin and irritate the skin.  That’s why, you have to dry your skin carefully and maintain high hydration levels.
