NO UTILIZAR PSOTHERAPY®:

PSORIASIS

Nails

Psotherapy®

Cream

(An application per day until the symptoms disappear, then once a week)

The area to be treated is definitely trickier than skin areas and it requires more effort and patience. Before applying our cream, you should pre-treat the nails with a fine-grain nail file to remove the surface layer that is normally covered with grease and dirt.

Since nail tissue is extremely porous, it tends to absorb a lot of grease and impurities that create a barrier that would slow down or even prevent the absorption of our active ingredient. I advise you not to overdo the abrasion; just very light abrasion to remove a very thin surface layer will be enough. After that, cleanse your nails with hydrogen peroxide and when they are perfectly dry, apply our cream. We suggest that you apply an occlusive dressing (with special finger stalls sold in pharmacies or just simple cellophane) so the product will be left in place for longer time. The occlusive dressing is not mandatory but we recommend it if you perform activities with your hands or if you have to frequently wash your hands.

It is important to know that at the beginning of using the product might appear an increased feeling of itching, redness of the lesions, and sometimes a more or less intense burning sensation. This is normal during the first two weeks of use; in fact, it means the product is working. This phenomenon is known as "paradoxical effect. There is no need to worry because the symptoms will improve in a few days. In any case just follow the information sheet provided.

Drugs - Before starting Psotherapy treatment, it is advised to stop using cortisone products at least two weeks before and at least two months before for biological drugs. Psoriasis and food – Part Two. Foods and psoriasis

Psoriasis and food Part  II Foods and psoriasis Having psoriasis under control does not only mean depriving oneself of certain foods, but including some foods that help to restore the skin hydration level and decrease the body inflammatory condition.

Psoriasis and food - Part Two

The psoriasis manifests itself in the skin with the presence of extensive patches covered with a strong flaking skin, characterized by white or silver scaly patches. As excessive dryness and inflammation are features of this disease, it is necessary to take precautions and to know better what things can bring benefits or, otherwise, exacerbate its condition. This is the case of food. The relationship between psoriasis and nourishment is rather controversial, but there is scientific evidences that can provide valuable information in order to have a proper diet.

Having psoriasis under control does not only mean depriving oneself of certain foods, but also including some foods that are healthy for both, any individual and a person suffering from psoriasis because they help to restore the skin hydration level and decrease the body inflammatory condition. Having a diet based on our own knowledge and working on what can, in general, be harmful for a psoriasis patient, provoke a positive reaction in our skin. Certainly, this is the best option which could alleviate, to a large extent, the symptoms of the disease.

Food doesn’t make Psoriasis to disappear, however, as Psoriasis is a pathology characterized by a systemic inflammatory condition, it can be improved by having some specific foods in your diet and removing others that worsen and exacerbate its symptoms. To determine what is harmful to the body and what is beneficial to our skin, it is necessary to classify foods depending on the reaction they produce to our body and the role they play for psoriasis.

Since any food can’t cause or cure psoriasis, we will classify it as: harmful and beneficial because some foods aggravate the symptoms, while others reduce them.

Harmful foods

Harmful foods refer to all those foods that produce a pro-inflammatory action to the body leading to the exacerbation of psoriasis symptoms and, as a consequence, their aggravation.

Red meat: In red meat are found saturated fatty acids such as the polyunsaturated fatty acid called arachidonic or Omega 6 that encourages the skin inflammatory process. Omega 6 is also difficult to digest; the more energy is used to digest devitalized foods, the less energy will save to carry out normal daily activities and therefore, there is a greater probability to increase body weight.

Milk products: They are rich in saturated fats and tyramine. Tyramine has similar effects of stimulation as the sympathetic nervous system in various tissues. It is found in cheeses such as parmesan, gorgonzola and brie, causing high blood pressure, headaches and allergic reactions.

Gluten: (See Article psoriasis and celiac disease: http://www.psotherapy.it/blog/la-psoriasi-e-la-celiachia). It comes from the mixture, in the presence of water and mechanical energy, of two types of proteins: prolamin (found in wheat) and glutenin, mainly found in farro, rye and barley. It usually triggers an inflammatory response of the body as a result of bowel disorder and skin rashes.

Packing foods: They are rich in sugars and hydrogenated fats, and harmful to the body damaging cellular functions. Besides they not only cause to gain body weight, but also have some serious consequences such as: early aging of the brain, predisposition to degenerative diseases and depression.

Energetic drinks: They deceive our body forcing us to stay awake, make the heart works harder and cause blood sugar peaks. Tea and coffee specifically affect psychophysical balance leading to heart rate changes and anxiety. Even the consumption of chamomile can produce some problems; many people do not know that three minutes after drinking chamomile tea, it can be noticed exciting effects like the ones resulting from a cup of tea or coffee.

Alcohol: Alcohol consumption damages various organ systems, promotes the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and dilates blood vessels so that circulating T cells lead to worsening of the disease.

Solanaceae: Although fruits and vegetables are essential for moisturizing the skin, some of them can be difficult to digest and therefore, irritants when it’s about psoriasis. Eggplant, raw tomatoes, peppers and potatoes contain solanine, a chemical element that, in some patients, triggers and worsens skin inflammation.

 Beneficial foods

These are foods that increase body hydration or have a detoxifying function, making the body to restore its balance and drastically reduce the acute onset of the disease.

Omega 3: It is the antagonist of arachidonic acid. It reduces triglyceride levels and agglomeration of platelets, and performs an ideal anti-inflammatory action to counteract the exacerbation of psoriasis. It is found in nuts such as almonds, walnuts and hazelnuts, as well as in sardines, tuna, swordfish and especially, salmon.

Yogurt: It is rich in probiotic bacteria, which once in the walls of the Colon, produces beneficial lactic acid to preserve the immune system and to prevent the development of various skin and other diseases.

Lettuce and broccoli: They are the best foods for those persons who suffer from psoriasis. Rich in beta-carotene and vitamin C, they help the digestion process and the elimination of toxins avoiding the inflammation of the organism.

Fibers: They are good for digestion and essential for the stimulation of the liver and the cleaning of the blood. Therefore, we recommend to consume bread, pasta and brown rice.

 Condiments:

Garlic: is rich in vitamin C and a good source of selenium, it is able to inhibit the activity of the inflammatory process caused by arachidonic acid

Hemp and flax oil: are rich in omega 3. The provide elasticity to the delicate and irritated skin

Seeds Mixture: It is excellent for salads or yogurt. They are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and selenium and are precious seasoning for people with psoriasis. In general, they improve the aspect of skin, hair and nails.

Honey: As a substitute for sugar, it is a healthy and natural source of energy, full vitamins and minerals.

Drinks: It is recommended to take at least two liters of water a day to keep skin with psoriasis, which is particularly damaged, highly hydrated. Mixtures of herbs such as valerian, hawthorn, passionflower and devil's claw are also very beneficial.

What you eat is important, but remember that it is even more important how it is ingested. We all know that the first digestion occurs in the mouth, for this reason, if food is swallowed without chewing, the true taste of food is lost, the air in the stomach, which swells up, increases, the physical sensitivity reduces, and body weight goes up.

In this sense, for a balanced diet, avoid foods that aggravate the symptoms of psoriasis, consume foods that can improve your condition and eat slowly, savor each dish accompanied with room temperature water.
