2010 An extract chemist detects a positive reaction in some patients with psoriasis to skin contact with beta vulgaris. Thus, the idea of developing a preparation that allows a simpler application than the direct use of the plant arises.
2013 In Santiago de Compostela, Spain, the project approaches a turning point in the beginning of a collaboration between some Italian chemists and a group of Cuban dermatologists who conduct a trial phase.
2014 The preparation is tested on a patient from Lunamatrona, a small village in Sardinia, Italy, who suffers from severe psoriasis all over the body since 1999.
2015 After about a year, during an interview, the patient of Lunamatrona declares: "After 5 years and a month I managed to sleep and live a normal life, my psoriasis is completely gone." The patient reports having tried many treatments without getting any results. The last attempt, before testing the beta vulgaris preparation, was "Wheat therapy": his skin had become dark and scaly, so much that he called himself "a roasted fish". Currently the patient of Lunamatrona, is well and keeps his psoriasis symptoms under control by applying the preparation every ten days.
In the same year, the commercialization of the preparation began with different commercial brands and some doctors started to recommend it to their patients, many of whom still use it to keep psoriasis symptoms under control.
2017 A company, a spin-off from a university in southern Italy, is responsible for conducting an in vitro test on the effectiveness of the patented natural extract. The result is surprising: in only 9 days there is a 28% reduction of hyperkeratosis (psoriatic plaque) in the horny layer.
In the same year the project is at another turning point. A new collaboration between Italian and Cuban physicians takes place, carrying out a new phase of the tests that leads to important results:
1. New formulations are defined according to the different treatment needs and, in particular, location and symptoms;
2. New protocols for skin pretreatment and application of the preparation are defined, specifically targeted according to the symptomatology;
On October 4th, 2017, at the Dermatology Congress held in Havana, Cuba, a Cuban dermatologist presented the results of a test performed on 626 patients at several hospitals on the Caribbean island. In particular, there is a general recurrence rate of less than 5% and, for treated individuals who had never used cortisone, the rate of recurrence recorded is zero.
The collaboration is consolidated with a team of dermatologists specialized in treating psoriasis, who contribute to the development of scientific and informative contents of the website https://www.psotherapy.com/psoriasis/
The preparation is produced in Italy by certified laboratories equipped with cutting-edge technology. It is currently marketed in Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Cuba, the United States, Australia and New Zealand.
